KEEPING WATER CLEAN - Using 3% Grocery and
Drugstore Hydrogen Peroxide:
DRINKING WATER - to kill algae in rain barrels and animal drinking troughs = 8 oz. to 50 gallons of water

1/2 gallon per 1000 gallons of water or
16 oz. per 100 gallons of water

BIRDBATHS = 1 To 2 tablespoons depending on depth
of water

ALSO - Several copper pennies in bird baths will help reduce algae.


  • Beans: Don’t plant near chives, garlic, leeks, onions, peppers, marigolds
  • Peas:  Don’t plant near chives, garlic, leeks, onions, peppers
  • Broccoli and Cauliflower: Don’t plant near peppers, squash, strawberries, tomatoes
  • Tomatoes:  Don’t plant near broccoli, cauliflower, cilantro, cucumbers
  • Dill: Don’t plant near carrots
  • Sunflowers need to be planted at least 12 inches away from any other plant.

    Wildlife Friendly Gardens
    Diane Cobb, one of our former members, has given several presentations on How to Create a Wildlife Friendly Garden.  She suggests following the recommendations from the National Wildlife Federation Garden for Wildlife website to create these natural wildlife retreats.  Once you have built your natural wildlife friendly garden, click here to certify it on the National Wildlife Federation website!
